Alan Gouk at Abstract Critical
If you missed the Alan Gouk exhibition at Poussin Gallery, London in January/February, as I did, then these two videos at Abstract Critical of him talking about the paintings in the show are the next best thing. More than touring the show, he has a lot of interesting things to say about his approach to abstraction, his working practices and colour.

That was fascinating. When I saw ’26 minutes’ for the first part I really did not think I was going to watch more than 2 minutes, but that was enough to pull me in and watch it all and then I watched the second part too. One thing this has brought me to realize is, that the best way to appreciate art, maybe especially abstract art, is to have some idea, some understanding of what the artist is thinking and what they’re trying to do. And of course since making art is often a nonverbal process, it can be very difficult to articulate that, as we saw Alan Gouk never cease having difficulty with… It makes me think I need to try harder to articulate what I’m trying to do… Of course you get it though. 🙂 Saying that I realize it’s most of my non-painter friends that may not…
