Returning to a familiar theme
I don’t know what it is about this theme…
…that makes me want to come back and do it again – only better. The one above is from 2011.
Here was an attempt from last year…
…too quick, too casual
I’m back on it this year but much slower and with more precision. Sticking with the high colour (too decorative to be decorative) at least for now.
It’s funny how differently I am approaching the painting of it after doing so many smaller (mostly unsuccessful) paintings in 2012. Also, it’s only 20″ x 20″ and it feels big!

Hm…not sure what an ‘unsuccessful’ painting is…

I just had in mind that I was dissatisfied with a lot of them after I had painted them, and waited a few months (it’s a weakness of mine that I tend to like them at first and then months later see all the faults).

Hi Andy,
I really like these two paintings, especially the one from last year. I prefer that one because it has more unique colours than the first one. I also have an interest in geometric patterns and lines, which is a theme I have begun to explore in my artwork over the last few weeks. I think your colour choices and your use of thick and thin lines creates a fun and thought provoking painting. Thanks for sharing your work!

p.s. Here is a link to my blog i recently started. I blog about my artwork, which is mostly painting at the moment — http://passthebrush.wordpress.com/
