On Reflection – Art in Blackpool

with 4 comments

Finding an hour or so of rest during the magnificent Blackpool Sequence Dance Festival 2012 we took a stroll down the prom’ in search of the famous glitter ball, or mirror ball.

I wasn’t expecting to see visual art today. I enjoyed its connection to valued content (ballroom dancing) without it in any way being a representation of that content.

This mirror ball, by Michael Trainor and The Art Department, reflects not only the environment immediately in contact with it, but also a tradition, specifically the ballroom dancing tradition for which Blackpool is so famous and that draws me here once again.
