Where does the colour mixing occur?

with 3 comments

In this little painting (or is it a drawing?) where does the colour mixing occur? The green, brown, orange and purple are mixtures ‘on the page’. The colour, is applied on dry colour (more or less). So is the mixture physical, i.e. actually happening on the page, or optical, taking place in the eye/brain of the viewer?

Quickweave, April 2012, ink on paper, 6"x6"

I suspect it is the latter…

…or a bit of both…

…or neither?

  1. For me it is a bit of both, this series is really turning out to be interesting, especially with your narrative.

  2. Feels optical to me and more like a drawing – but where the colors peek through it has the feel of under-painting too…hmmm….loving your weaves either way!

  3. Thanks to both of you for commenting, and for your kind words about my work. I think you are both right that there is a lot of optical mixing going on and that it is probably also a bit of both. I have no idea how it could be verified. And whether it is a drawing or a paintng is continued in a later post with comments largely agreeing with morphodidius.
