Getting up close and personal

with 4 comments

The colour-field abstractionists had a point about viewing the painting from up close and getting immersed in the colour. That way you are in the painting. And although Matisse was also correct about a thimble full of red being redder than a bucketful, a field of red is more of an experience of redness than the thimble full ever could be.

Thank you to Rachael Pinks for the Matisse quote (and apologies fro what i did with it).

  1. Love this! Is it the same painting you had hanging over a sofa earlier?
